WIAA Football Playoffs

WIAA announces its brackets for the WIAA state football playoffs, which begin on Tuesday.

Below is a preview of teams at the pairings involving Milwaukee area teams plus some information with other WIAA Football Playoffs divisions.

WIAA Football Playoffs Division 1 brackets:

Madison West (5-4, 5-4) at (1) Waukesha West (7-0, 9-0) and Janesville Parker (6-3, 6-3) at (4) Arrowhead (6-1, 7-1)

Hartford Union (5-2, 5-4) at (3) Verona Area (7-2, 7-2) and Oconomowoc (5-2, 5-4) at (2) Middleton (7-2, 7-2)

Racine Park (4-3, 6-3) at (1) Marquette (7-0, 9-0) and Milwaukee Hamilton (6-2, 6-3) at (4) Oak Creek (4-3, 6-3)

Kenosha Tremper (4-3, 5-4) at (3) Milwaukee Riverside (7-1, 8-1) at Pulaski Field and Milwaukee Bay/Lifelong Learning (5-3, 5-3) at (2) Kenosha Bradford.

WIAA Football Playoffs Division 2

Slinger (4-3, 5-4) travels to (1) Monona Grove (6-0, 9-0).

South Milwaukee (4-4, 5-4) travels to Milwaukee South Stadium to play (1) Milwaukee Bradley Tech (8-0, 8-1).

Whitnall (6-2, 7-2) travels to (4) Lake Geneva Badger (5-2, 7-2).

Milwaukee North (4-4, 4-5) at (2) Waterford (6-1, 8-1).

But here are two first-round games I would like to see - Sussex Hamilton (6-2, 7-2) at (4) Cedarburg (6-1, 8-1) and Greendale (6-2, 7-2) at (3) Franklin (6-1, 7-2).

WIAA Football Playoffs Division 3

(1) Wisconsin Lutheran (7-0, 7-2) opens against Milwaukee Lutheran (4-3, 5-4) and New Berlin West (5-3, 5-4) travels to (4) Union Grove (5-2, 6-3). I don't see the Vikings having trouble in either of its first two games.

(3) Brown Deer (6-2, 7-2) gets to host a game having placed second in the Woodland Black Division, but their opponent is a third-place team which finished behind Waukesha West and Arrowhead - Catholic Memorial (5-2, 6-2) - ouch!

(2) New Berlin Eisenhower (7-1, 8-1) will host Whitefish Bay (4-3, 5-4), so I look forward to a Lion-Crusaders second round match-up.

(1) Pewaukee (8-0, 9-0) hosts Whitewater (4-3, 5-4). The Pirates have a good chance to get to the sectional finals if all goes right.

WIAA Football Playoffs Division 4

St. John's NW Military Academy (4-3, 5-4) has to face (2) Winnebago Lutheran Academy (6-1, 8-1).

There are four unbeaten teams in D4 - Northwestern (7-0, 9-0), Kewaunee (7-0, 9-0) and Big Foot (7-0, 9-0)

WIAA Football Playoffs Division 5

(4) Martin Luther (4-2, 5-3) hosts Dodgeland (4-3, 5-4).

Kenosha St. Joseph (3-3, 5-4) plays at (2) Cedar Grove-Belgium (7-0, 9-0).

Heritage Christian (5-2, 7-2) travels to (3) Oostburg (6-1, 8-1).

Colby (7-0, 9-0), Brillion (8-0, 9-0), Lancaster (5-0, 9-0), Saint Mary's Springs (7-0, 9-0) join Cedar Grove-Belgium (7-0, 9-0) as the five unbeaten teams in D5.

WIAA Football Playoffs Division 6

(2) Lake Country Lutheran hosts Deerfield (5-2, 5-4) at Kettle Moraine.

(3) Brookfield Academy (6-1, 8-1) and its offensive machine led by QB Daniel Ricci will host a good Algoma team (6-2, 6-3).

(4) Racine Lutheran (4-2, 7-2) will host Manitowoc Lutheran (5-3, 6-3) at Carthage College.

Flambeau (8-0. 9-0), Edgar (8-0, 9-0), Bangor (7-0, 9-0) and Shiocton (7-0, 9-0) are the four unbeaten teams in D6, all top-seeds, of course.

Site change: (4) Hurley (6-1, 8-1) will now host Thorp (7-2, 7-2) instead of playing the game at Clear Lake.

WIAA Football Playoffs Division 7

There is one local team in D7, defending state champion Burlington Catholic Central (6-0, 8-1), which will host Hustisford (3-3, 3-6).

There are three undefeated teams - Plum City (7-0, 9-0), Potosi (8-0, 9-0) and Gilman (9-0, 9-0).
