Mr. Robert Salcedo Jr is a very talented Cavitenio. He is now working at AlBader- Enterprise in Saudi Arabia as an I.T. Admin/ Data Controller personnel.

Robert (our other friends call him JR) and I both graduated at ICC Rosario Branch last 2003. During our college days, Robert have been active to some school programs.

He is voted as our batch's Student Council president. When we graduated, Robert joined many “confidence boosting” contests such as personality contest titled “MAHARLIKA NG LIGTONG 2003” in Barangay Ligtong, Rosario Cavite, after that, he also joined “MR. DREAMBOY CAVITE 2005”.

Luckily enough, after so many popularity contests, Robert received good news or let’s say a work opportunity related to his course as an IT professional. He went to Saudi Arabia to face a new challenging role of his life and career.

Saudi Arabia is one of the many very strict Middle East countries, but still, it didn’t stop him to join again a personality or popularity contest. He joined for the search for Mr. and Ms Philippines Saudi Arabia 2006 and luckily enough, he takes home the MR. Tourism Saudi Arabia 2006.

Mr. and Ms Philippines Saudi Arabia 2006 is an annual contest in Saudi Arabia held in Philippine Embassy in Riyadh K.S.A. Still, as of this moment, Robert Salcedo Jr. is making his name and pursuing his career as an IT Professional at Saudi Arabia. He is truly one of the Cavite's pride and finest.

Kawiteños of Southern California

Saturday, June 27, 2009

It is really great that there are so many organizations that represents Municipalities of Cavite abroad. I salute the members, the founders and the supporters of those group that represents and uplifts the spirit and culture of Cavitenios.

One of many organizations that I know of is the Kawiteños of Southern California. They are a non-profit, non-denomination organization founded in 1974 by a small group of Filipinos in San Diego, California, who prior to emigration to the United States, were residents of the historic town of Kawit, Cavite, the hometown of the first President of the Philippine Republic Emilio Aguinaldo and where the first Philippine Independence was proclaimed in 1898.

Here is an excerpt of what they say about their group; their activities, their goal and their mission.

Our activities include the celebration of the traditional Karakol and Kawit town fiesta during the month of July and the Maytinis in December. The Cruise of the Bay of San Diego (Karakol sa Dagat) is also celebrated every other year. These gatherings are excellent opportunities to meet former classmates, old acquaintances and other town mates and help preserve our rich culture and pass it on to generations to come. It is also our goal to help our kababayan through outreach missions here and abroad.

We value every member of our organization, their family members and friends. Our strength is in our unity and our ability to effectively carry out our events, functions and outreach missions is based on the talents, skills, and availability of our members.

Kawiteños of Southern California Organization History

It was June 9, 1974 when Mr. Gabe Jamanila organized a simple potluck picnic at Admiral Baker’s Field for all the Kawiteños here in San Diego. It was a big success and at the same time he learned from his wife, Priscilla that Mrs. Aning Cruz was going to visit her family in the Philippines, in time for the celebration of our Town Fiesta, July 22, 1974.
Due to unforeseen circumstances that happened with Mrs. Aning Cruz, she had to cancel her trip to the Philippines. She asked Mr. & Mrs. Gabe Jamanila to have another potluck to celebrate our own town fiesta in San Diego. Mr. Gabe Jamanila promised Mrs. Cruz that he will get in touch with their fellow Kawiteños around California and in other cities in the country. In the Philippines, Kawit Town Fiesta is always celebrated on the 22nd of July. In 1974, 22nd of July fell on Monday so they decided to have this celebration on the 21st of July.

From then on it has been a success every year. The attendance has grown by the hundreds. Kawit Town Fiesta became known to every Kawiteños in the United States. It has become a memorable occasion where our young generations can learn our cultures and traditions of their heritage. With this celebration, all the Kawiteños always have a chance to renew old acquaintances, acquire new friends and honor their patron saint, Saint Mary Magdalene. As we all say, although the Kawiteños are away from their native land, Saint Mary Magdalene is never forgotten and always stays in their heart, mind and soul.

The Kawiteños also want their children to know how we celebrate Christmas in Kawit, so they also celebrate their “Maytinis” in San Diego. They dramatize the part where Mary & Joseph were looking for a place to stay and they end in the stable that is well made by the Kawiteños

The Kawiteños started with a few families then; now the Kawiteños is one of the recognized Filipino organizations in San Diego.

Thanks to our founders, Aning Cruz, Precy Jamanila and Gabriel Jamanila who are now with our Blessed Lord in Heaven.

The Regada Annual Water Festival in Cavite City is fast approaching. The special date is on June 24, Wednesday. To bad for those students and employees outside Cavite City because they can't attend on the celebration, unless, they have a reason (or make a wild, strong reason) to leave their class, offices and workplace for that particular date.

Regada is a water festival held primarily at Cavite City every June 24th of the year. That date is also the date of the celebration of San Juan Bautista festivity. Regada started in 1996 during the tenure of the Mayor Tim Encarnacion. This week-long celebration is a mirror of Cavite City’s culture and tradition, combined with fun and merryment.

More and more people add up to the local crowd, attending this once a year occasion. In fact, due to its ever growing popularity, celebrities and known actors and actresses take part in the event, even noontime variety shows are held in the city during the affair. These people experience not only the festive mood but the ecological implication of the event and the spiritual bonding which unity brought them together as the reason the festival is successful year after year.

The party-loving people of Cavite City gets busy every year during the second week of June in the elaborate preparation of the annual Cavite City Water Festival, more popularly known as Regada. Regada is derived from Spanish word "regar" from the Chavakano speaking Cavitenios, Regada literally means “to sprinkle” or “to douse with water”. Nowadays, Regada has been a yearly tradition to celebrate the Cavite City Water Festival more popularly known as "REGADA" every June. The annual tourism oriented festival has evolved into a combined environmental, religious and cultural activity. More so, the month of June is significant in Cavite City's history for its lasting contribution to Philippine independence and history.

Regada, will be staged in the one kilometer stretch along P. Burgos Avenue. The main thoroughfare will be rigged with sprinklers and mobile sound system to transform P. Burgos Avenue into what could be the biggest wet party in the country.

Students and townfolks will fill the avenue to participate in the wet street dancing dubbed as "Basayawan sa Kalye". The participants will interpret the essence of the yearly water festival through colorful costumes and body movements and dance to the music provided by the giant mobile sound systems installed along P. Burgos Avenue.

The festival culminates with the holding of Caracol ni San Juan Bautista at around 11 o'clock in the moring, a fitting climax to the festival's origin in honor of St. John the Baptist in which people celebrate for the blessing by joining the "Paulan".

All in all, Regada annual festival in Cavite City is truly one of its kind. This event deserves a place to the list of Cavite's Pride and Finest. So set the date up, and come and join the celebration this June 24th. It will be a full of fun, enjoyment, excitement and lots of wet and wild activities.

Few days to go and we, Filipinos will be celebrating our Independence Day! June 12 is a very special day for us Filipinos and more for Cavitenios.

As far as history is concerned, Cavite is very well known for its major role in the proclamation of independence of the Philippines.

It was in Kawit, Cavite (formerly known as Cavite el Viejo) where General Emilio Aguinaldo decraled, in the form of proclamation, the Philippines independence. The date was June 12, 1898.

This event also includes the unfurling of the National Flag of the Philippines, made by Mrs. Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herboza in Hongkong

Marcha Filipina Magdalo or now known as Lupang Hinirang, the Philippines National Anthem is also played along by the San Francisco de Malabon Marching band composed by Julian Felipe.

More of the known history takes place here at Cavite, specially in Kawit.

June 12 is a national holiday, so why not celebrate this special day at Kawit Cavite. It will be a fun, exciting and very patriotic event as I may say.
